Bob Marshall?
« on: September 20, 2013, 06:22:11 AM »
My dad want to go on wilderness hunt this year, so we booked a trip into the Bob Marshall for the end of October.
what can I expect this time of year up there? I would think the elk are weather dependent (no weather no elk, to much weather no elk)? How is the deer hunting up there? I've read and heard stories about elk hunting there, never really hear anything about deer.
The trip isn't really a trophy hunt to my dad or me, but the adventure in the high country and time together. Just looking for some past experience's good or bad.

I hope it is not with Ford Creek Outfitters. Truly a waste of money for many people.

I went out of Lincoln MT a few years back the adventure was awesome truly one of my most memorable and favorite hunts. I went with pack and tack outfitters, not a lot of elk but tons and tons of sign. Lots of moose and grizzlys. 4 of us got really nice high mountain mules. I went mid Oct and it was really cold nights and about 70 mid day and one day snowed so anything goes out there. Good luck and take lots of pictures to post :))

You should have a good trip.  Beautiful country, weather is a crapshoot.

Take a camera and a good attitude, the Sun River is a fabulous place.

The camera will ride in the same case as the gun and tags.

A buddy of mine's father hunted with Sun canyon 5 of 6 years in a row a and took some real nice animals..
A hunt based only on trophies taken falls far short of what the ultimate goal should be, time to commune with your inner soul as you share the outdoors with the birds, the animals, and fish that live there”.- Fred bear

There wont be any need for the lighter gear, easy packing.

I did some research on Sun Canyon Lodge in the past and I liked what I found. Also, I belive one of the owners from the Nock Point used their service and had good success. Good luck

Sun Canyon is a top notch operation, a trip of a life time. The hunting was pretty slow but we were able to take a couple of bulls out with us.
