Decoy Carts
« on: September 20, 2013, 02:27:12 PM »

What sort of non-motorized wheeled contraption do you use to haul your guns, decoys, and layout blinds into the field?

Dragging a loaded sled across the wheat or corn fields gets harder every season so I'm looking for another option.

Ill post a pic when I get home, but I use a columbia bike trailer that hauled kids. 2 seater, very light with big rear wheels. Got it for 40 bucks, has a handle to push it too.

You need a layout blind first, then you'll need something to haul it in.

There was a decoy cart for sale in the classifieds here just a few days ago. Big, square cart with large bicycle type tires. Seemed like it could hold a lot of gear. However I have found that pushing/pulling a heavily loaded cart through a field isn't any better than carrying your gear on your back. I've used a couple different types of game carts and both started out well but quickly detiorated as I got farther in to the field. Often times with a cart your decoy bags will begin to sag and jossle around as you go over all the bumps. They either end up falling off to one side or rubbing on your tires as you pull the cart. Also the soft soil bogs your tires down and makes the haul more trouble than its worth IMO. Putting multiple bags on a pack frame and making a slug out is the fastest easiest way I have found to get my gear in the field. Good luck!    :twocents::twocents:

I use a game cart from Cabelas.  My hike is about 3/4 mile but nice road so I hook up the dog to it and let him pull and pretty much just steer.  In the off season I use it to haul material to backyard projects.  All the material for the porch in the background was hauled on the cart.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Well I used the sled for years. When the field floods its a breeze.
When I first started waterfowl I carried all on my back. But one time at o dark 30 I decided to cut across a field to a pond.
Mistake. Sank past my knees and couldn't move. Wiggled out of the deke bag and climbed on top of it.
Than I clam digged for my hip waders.

Ever since I use the sled. If you get tired just take a break and sit on it.
Tried a game cart but the tires plugged up with mud.

I've always used the gardening carts that have two tires and a box and handle in front. You can modify it for larger tires if you like. They work awesome except in gumbo mud.  Harbor freight sells some.
