Just got my pointing lab from morgans point ranch in chewelah WA
« on: September 20, 2013, 05:38:04 PM »
I went and picked up nash 2 weeks ago and now he's 8 weeks old. So far so good I was able to take him in the truck for early goose season and even though I chose not to take him out while we were hunting I took him out for the pictures after to get the scent of goose in his system. I was thinking about taking him pheasant hunting when he reaches 4 months just to take him on walks with some fun. He will be gun shot tested and accustomed by then. anyone else take there dogs hunting that soon?

Only game in town for what? Training grounds?

My only fear would be him getting spurred by a wounded pheasant at that age. However the experience could probably go along way in getting the dogs bird drive up! Not really sure but I know I can't wait to hunt my little guy(10 months 75pounds of little :P), still my little guy though! Good luck

Looked at the site and it said there was sales tax. Did anyone pay sales tax on their pup?

Yes I believe it was just shy of 1100 bucks.  Not cheap by any means, but about the going rate on pointing labs.

Yea Nash has been showing quite a bit of pointing so far, I've been playing around with pheasant wings and he points those all the time and holds a really long time. He also just points random stuff, hell be trotting around and then freeze up and point at a log or something he hasn't seen before. I've had him play around a few pigeons in a cage  but not out in the field yet.

Huh.....To my knowledge, you don't pay sales tax on live animals in the state of WA.

I beileve if you have a business you will pay taxes, so often times that business owner will add the taxes at the time of sale. When I was a kid and Dad put the farm into business status we had to charge tax on the animals we sold. When we  had our gamefarmers license a few years back I had to pay tax on all earnings I claimed but it was never too much so I just paid it all at the end fo the year rather than track the sale price of each bird we sold.

Probably depends on how they file their business taxes.

Only three colors of labs and red isn't one of them. Found john Morgans glasses in my driveway last week. Lol
