Coyote cursed?
« on: October 31, 2008, 11:16:09 AM »
I think I am cursed... :chuckle:

I've had the chance at six yotes this year, and nearly missed them all...the last being yesterday.

Coyote 1. Summer, called him in, pointed the .22 at his face at like 30 yards...safety was on!

coyote 2 and 3. Summer, bear hunting, just after getting a flat...jump two yotes at like 20 yards and pop two rounds at one of them with my .300 wsm (they were running)...off they run!

Coyote 4. Modern Deer, ....watching a freeway for animals of a gully...here comes mr. yote, I got him dead to rights...pull up at about 80 yards or so...shave his belly with my bullet! What a shave that must have been.

yote 5. Modern Deer, brother called in 5 at once, up the hill several hundred yards from me...one of them happened to come cruising by me...i shoot under him!

Yote 6. Modern deer yesterday...I hear what I think is a bear eating, up this brushy hill...I wait for like 40 minutes as it works closer and closer...it finally pops out from behind some trees...a yote at 150 yards or so..(I had my open sight 30 30 with me)...I try to coax him closer, but he isnt interested, so I pop a round...what the heck...he holds still after the shot, see's me reload then bolts, so I try another...sigh...

Sometimes, you just have to laugh at yourself. :bash:

Hey it sounds like you have a little target panic going on. Just do what we tell the bowhunters to do when they can't hold on the target. Start shooting them at 10 feet and then slowly increase the distance.  :chuckle: :chuckle:

Just kidding, Everybody gets their share of misses.

Did a little early trip last year, called 6. I killed the first 4 with 4 shots. Then I missed 1, my nephew missed another 1.

Did a little early trip this year, called 4, didn't even get a round popped at 2, I shot at 2 and missed, didn't get anything!

I've seen two this year. Almost got a shot at one with my pistol but it took off. Other one was in a farmers field on the way to work.

Called one in a couple weeks ago and everything played out beautifully, came in exactly where I expected, stopped him right where I wanted him, solid rest on shooting sticks, BANG....miss.  He stands there, I rack another one in, BANG...miss, he trots about 10 yards I rack another one in, BANG....hit him but he runs off up over the hill and I lose him, I go to look for blood and can't find any.  I heard it hit him and saw him jump, but couldn't find him.  Pretty aggravating to say the least to have it dead to rights and then see it run off, unfortunately wounded.  I took my rifle out to see if my zero was off because I knew I had a solid rest and was steady at the shot and my rifle was four inches high and four inches left.  Not a good start to my season.

its ok me and my partner called in two.  we noticed the first one 50 yards behind us.  after he hit it once i tried to continue to shoot at it to for sure put it down and unloaded my rifle in the attempt.... we turned around and there was another at about 50 yards opposite direction.  my partner got that one too,  though i did bark and stop it for him.  worst part was it was my turn to shoot LOL,  oh well cant wait to get out there again.  atleast we are seeing coyotes and are getting to shoot.  nothing worse then going out and just listening to your e-caller all day... unless you just like walking around the woods with your hunting partner.
Ill take 'Buck Fever' over 'Swine flu'...
