Hound shot in Idaho - Reward Offered $4500.
« on: September 24, 2013, 03:35:18 PM »
There was a hound shot by a bow hunter in Idaho recently. If anyone knows anything there is a $4500 reward for info that leads to an arrest and conviction. Lets get the word out so we can get the SOB!

hmmm, scenario...

Bugling bull is coming in... rogue/lost hound from previous day bear hunt comes strolling in and blows your chance at a bull you been trying to get on the last 4-5 days?

Seen it happen, first hand and wanted to kill him, but just did have the heart, but how many would??? Instead, packed him to camp called # on collar and spoke with owner on where to meet to drop the hound off.

I have ran into several hounds in the woods and turned them back into the owners. One hound twice in 2 weeks!!!

My uncle and I many years ago came upon a stranded hound and took him to camp for food and water. We were trapped sort of behind a forest fire and the owner we found out later was on the other side of the fire locked out. This is the way it used to be. I can not figure why anyone would shoot a dog unless it had rabies or some serious issue. Hope they find this vermin and put him away for a long spell with loss of hunting privileges for life!

Lots and lots of people mistake dogs for wolves. It's easy to see that by some of the threads on here. It's not hard to make that mistake. But they're usually not hounds. That'd be a water-brained mistake.

It was in the MULTI-USE national forest. weather it ruins your elk hunt or not makes no difference. If you don't like the chance of someone messing your hunt up go hunt private land. I don't really care to listen to people ride their dirt bikes and atvs but I have to deal with it.

The Big game houndsman forum is upping the reward. Its up to $4500 now. If you hear anything that can help post it here and I will get to the appropriate people or call the number listed on the biggamehoundsman.com post. Lets get some justice for the dog and the owner.  These dogs are our lives and families.

Same here on some busted elk hunts in the panhandle...but I have killed a cougar and bear with hounds before too.  Inexcusable to shoot someones dog in that scenario :bash: :bash:  I do wish they would modify seasons so hounds don't overlap archery elk hunts though.  I think most areas do stop hounds for rifle seasons to help reduce conflict.

My hunt was screwed up last weekend by Hounds, but I wished for different seasons, not to shoot the dogs. What kind of person would do that?  I wouldn't not call them a hunter though.

Thanks Jon. That's much appreciated. They are still looking for the person that did this. Someone is going to talk eventually. We just need to keep this search active and hope the person runs their mouth to much. Remember guys/gals we are all hunters with a common goal, to stay in the woods doing what we love.

I am a hunting dog magnet.  I've had hounds come to my door twice, and I've picked up a yellow lab pup, a female chocolate lab, a brittany and an English setter in the field while hunting.  Fortunately, they all had tags with phone numbers.  I did pick up a female black lab along Hwy 12 by Riffe Lake in 2001 with a broken rear foot and no ID - took her to the vet assuming she'd been lost by a duck hunter and hit on the Highway, nope old injury - we guessed then she was dumped since she couldn't hunt very well.   Found her a good nonhunting home.

There are very few situations where I'd kill someone's dog.  Hope they catch this sumbitch and neuter him.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Guy who lost this dog I'm friends with am giving him a pup, good guy. Wanted to keep the pup myself and had other that wanted him but priorities changed. I hunt during elk hunting where I'm from but try to avoid elk hunters so I don't screw up their hunt. Most people around here are good about things. Couldn't offer more money towards the reward for Ian because I'm poor haha but hope the pup fills in for him losing the dog, beys I could do.

If I saw hounds in the woods I wiuld definitely not shoot them... but may follow them because I think hound hunting is awesome and want to see what they tree. Diubtful I could keep up tho. Bummer to read this thread.

I understand what you're saying. But how many wolves and coyotes would you trust around your four year old daughter? I trust my dog more than I trust most humans. I know for a fact my dog would fight to his last breath to defend me and my family. Sure they're all dogs. But they are not the same. I really hope they catch this guy and make an example of him.

i still dont see how anyone could shoot a hound under any circumstance, if i came across a hound on the trail i would forget all about the quarry i pursue and follow the hound  :chuckle: i promise the idiot who shot the hound has never been on a hound hunt before, there aint no more of dedicated hunter than ahound, they will leterally run themselves into the ground, and are still just like a normal dog, i miss my hounds more than ever, and stories like these just really suck, i hope they find this clown, i am glad i dont know anyone who would do something like this, i would have no remorse for a buddy who would do something stupid like this  :twocents:
