only bear and game birds are illegal to bait.  anything else, cougs yotes bobs deer elk moose etc, perfectly legal (for now)

ive heard very limited things about people successfully baiting cougars tho.  if anybody HAS done it, what did you use, what time of year, what age / gender of cat,  snow/weather conditions, was it blind baiting or did you have reason to believe a cougar was close?
any other pertinent info would be cool.

I sucessfuly baited a cougar using cut up deer scraps. The cat was 80 to 100 lbs and it was in December. I knew there were cats in the area and when I was putting the scraps and cam out, I was hearing some chirping noises up on the hill above me.The next day I went and checked the cam and all the stuff was buried. Cat show up an hour after I left, went back the next day couple hours before dark and the cat showed up the last half hour light.
You sure you know how to skin griz pilgram

I've heard that beaver an horse meat are the best for baiting cougars. Not sure how you'd secure any of that though  :dunno:

Stillborn calves.  The dairy farmers have to pay to have them hauled away, so they're glad to get rid of them.  Later in season when it's colder meat doesn't sour as quick.  Fed mine 3 before I got him.

Not totally accurate....the more seasoned cougers may be conditioned to the classic bait....the cosmo. It is an old standby and should not be tossed out.
