2008 GRG Chapter Accomplishments

2008 Howard House JAKES Event

I would like to thank everyone who attended your 6th Annual JAKES Event event this past June at the Black Diamond Gun Range, and especially the Volunteers, Sponsors and Chapter members who made it all possible.  It was definitely a rewarding experience working with the 50+ kids in attendance for the fishing, archery, shooting, compass reading and calling classes.  We plan on this being an annual event and will give plenty of notice before this summer’s JAKES Event.  Check your chapter website for more information.  www.auburnnwtf.org

2008 WITO Co-sponsored Event

In July we co-sponsored the local WITO - Women in the Outdoors Event with the South Sound Longbeards and the Narrows Strut Busters.  Women from all over the Puget Sound enjoyed a day filled with Archery, Dutch Oven Cooking, Scrapbooking, ATV, Water Safety and Shooting classes.
Check your chapter website for more information.  www.auburnnwtf.org

2008 GRG THC Donations

Your Chapter donated $925 through the THC - Turkey Hunters that Care this Thanksgiving to 4 local food banks in Auburn, Black Diamond, Buckley and Enumclaw. This year there was a special need due to our down turned economy.  We appreciate all of the donations from our members to support this terrific program!

2008-2009 College Scholarship

This year your Chapter is awarding a $500 scholarship to: White River High School student Sam Crocco from Buckley, WA. He holds a 3.916 GPA and is ranked 9th out of 289 students in his class. Sam wants to major in Bioengineering and has lettered in Academics and Golf. This is an annual scholarship donated in the name of the NWTF.  Juniors should look for information on your www.auburnnwtf.org website. Interested high school seniors, shall be a Jakes member, have a hunting license and forward applications directly to me.

If you have any level of interest, I would encourage you to assist with our banquet ticket sales this year and introduce more friends and family to your event!  This will help tremendously to insure the banquet continues to be a huge success in the future.  Just drop me an email or call, and we will honor whatever level of commitment you can provide.

Please remember the winter storm and flood victims in your local communities and give them a helping hand.

Wishing everyone a happy New Year!

Enthusiastically,

Kevin E. Vaughn

This seems to be the trend, booking all these sportsmans dinners at Tribal Casinos.

Personally, I vowed years ago not to ever set foot in a tribal Casino. There are alot of other venues to hold these types of events. :dunno:

WHY do the conservation organizations continue to do this?

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

Turkeyman, the reason you can not hunt the turkey on the colvile reservation is because they are managed under the big game plan ! If they were managed under upland (as they should be statewide) we wouldnt have this disscussion.
I have been working on a write up for a few weeks now to submit to the WDFW/Colvile Nation.  I have no idea if they will even take a second look at it or not.  If they would, that is just revenue for them.

Iceman Jackalope I have discussed this with Kevin, still trying to sway him  :chuckle:

Yes you can hunt ducks, geese, quail, phesant, ect on the reservation.

I know its a big challenge, but actually there are a few that are seeing things in the same light...
