Check out page 81 in the hunting regs, lists firearm restricted areas by county.

I've killed a couple deer in Kitsap with a shotgun... During regular season.. Firearm restricted areas are perfect for them already... They were both shot with 00 buck out of a modified choke...

Is pistol hunting allowed in "restristed" firearm areas... and... What are restricted areas?

I was thinking a Medieval Catapult season. Let's face it, it would be bad-ass.

I'd like a truly primitive spear and boulder season.

A modern rifled barrel shotgun is essentially no different than a rifle.  Firearm Restricted areas are a joke, I'd rather have a 180 gr 30-30 round hit my house than a 250 gr @ 1800 fps (20ga sabot) or a 1 ounce 12 ga. slug.  I can use a .454 Casull revolver but not a .22 rifle to hunt rabbits.  Sorry for the side track.

There should be no special season for shotguns for reasons others have mentioned above.

Is pistol hunting allowed in "restristed" firearm areas... and... What are restricted areas?

It is pretty clearly written in the regs, check them out sometime....  Revolvers are allowed.

Yes you can use a revolver with a barrel 4" or longer Must be a revolver, and at least 24 Cal. Its in the regs. I've hunted BT with a .357 before, and it wasn't too bad... its cool pistol hunting.

Does anyone know if the contender single shots in rifle cartridges apply to restricted areas?
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

I wouldn't want a shotgun season....maybe if it was open to all tag holders just requiring shotguns, it could be something considering.  But I would think it might be a bad idea due to all the wounded animals that might be lost--can you imagine all the guys that would be taking 60-80 yard shots on animals with 00 buck.

I have taken two deer on Whitney Island with shotgun. Neither deer took a step and went to the ground immediately. I used sabot slugs which really pack a punch. The key in my op-pinion with a shotgun is to hunt like an archer to get as close as possible. My rule of thumb is to not shoot more then 50 yards. I practiced up to 50 yards and successfully hit the kill range at 50yards with these slugs each time. Sabot slugs developed orig-ionally by the military have plastic sheath that spin the slug inside of a smooth bore gun. I can't see a problem hunting with a shotgun as long as common sense is used. Practice, use good ammo, and don't take risky shots that only wound animals.

It depends on the restriction, a WDFW restriction allows revolvers.  Counties can get even more restrictive, where a buddy lives only 'shotguns with shot' and archery are allowed.
