Who is buying a new bow in 2009 and if so what are you getting?

still the alphamax for me, i also love the guys that buy based on speed... from my tests with a hooter shooter  fixed blades group best at 260-280fps anything past that and they are not that great...... so 300+ fps to me is worthless

I always buy based on speed. My fixed blade broadheads are grouping at 90 and 100 yards coming off my bow at 300 fps.


In fact I have shot three blade fixed broadheads as fast as 352 fps out at 90 yards and grouped up just fine.

At any rate the new Monster XLR8 will most likley be my new bow this coming year. Wonder how fast it will propel my arrows?

what bow do you shoot right now and how heavy are your arrows and what poundage?

Hoyt Hypertech with the Redline cam. 30" inch draw length. My Hunting arrows are Goldtip Biggame 100+ just shy of 30" length.(450 grains depending on the tip). Draw weight to shoot them at 300 fps is 80 lbs. Of course I back down the weight when I step into the woods.

I have posted this before but I have had this setup over 100lbs draw weight screwing around in the shop. At that weight I shot the Goldtip at 360 fps and another arrow of unknown weight at 396 fps.

At any rate shooting the broadheads at these speeds has put to rest, at least for me anyway, the myth that fixed blade broadheads will not fly at extreme speeds. I know they will because I have tested it and accomplished it. That does not mean that anybody will be able to do it. You need near perfect form and the mind set that it can be done.

I believe the last time I shot broadheads at 100 yards the impact point was just three or four inches lower than the field points and left to right was spot on.

Anyway these are all just my opinions and observations from things I have done. I hope that they don't steer anybody in the wrong direction. Each person should assess there own abilities and then stay within them.

the reflex line of bows are good for the price, basically they take a  hoyt parts and mix/match more or less and make reflex... just not quite the same quality as a hoyt but damn close...... still hands down the alphamax for me.. plenty fast at 321 and a nice brace height..  and apparently from some experts on here brace height is the only dertermining factor in a bows performance or accuracy.. so therfore that alone it will be awesome, I have never liked the way any matthews looks/feels in my hand and 360fps at 80lbs with a 5 in brace height.. no thanks..

You should be able to pick up a reflex fairly cheap now they don't make them any longer but the warranty should still be the same ( if you buy it new somewhere ). They are really good bows for the money!

Brace height is definatley not the only determining factor. All I stated was that brace height has never been a factor for me. It may be for some.

you can go wrong, thwe reflex is still hoyt just the other parts, like no tec riser or 5 layer lamintated limbs.. they are like the lx or dx of hoyt if you will, for the money it cant be beat

get a mission basically the same situation as reflex and hoyt... but who could honestly argue a hoyt against a mathews

oh hoyt staff shooter... i had a trykon xl and yea it wasnt bad except the weight and how loud and the vibrations... in which the bow shop was never able to cure... but i just wanted to know why you dont shoot a better hoyt bow if you shoot for them why wouldnt you shoot the nicest bow they have like the katera over a trykon xl.... or a mathews

I have no idea why yours was loud... Mine is as quiet as can be, The last deer I shot my buddy was 20 yrds from me and never heard it go off, also its a hoyt.. id take that bow over any matthews, bear or any other.. I also have a Pro elite I shoot indoors, that was and is the most winning target bow ever. and will set you back $1200 just for the bow.. the new vantage elite is the top target bow now, but ill stick with my Pro Elite.. I also ordered the new alphamax 35 to replace my trykon xl for hunting/3d.. custom of course  and last I knew that is hoyts best new bow... also the trykon is accurate as nails, I shot my first vegas 300 round with it... its quiet, fast and no vibration at all, the STS system I put on both my hoyts was just insurance...... they did make a diff though but both were already super smooth without it....

Ok it's official, I am going down tomorrow to buy myself an Alphamax 32 and get my daughter a Trykon Jr for Christmas.  I'm totally psyched to get the Alphamax but I'm even more excited to get her a compound.  I was telling my wife I just had to get my bow now because I couldn't let my daughter have a nicer bow than me  .
