School me on Wyoming please

I was looking into some other states to hunt and wyoming has caught my eye. I have been looking at the regs but I am still lost as to what I need to do and I have a few questions I was hoping I could get some help with.
1. Are there general season tags or do I have to apply for a certain unit?
2. Is a deer tag drawable with zero points?
3. What is the amount of public land like? I would like to hunt rangeland for mule deer, but not opposed to the timber.

The other other state I've hunted is Montana and the regs there seem much more simple than wyoming.

WY has two types of tags, general region tags and limited draw tags.  The funny thing is nonresidents have to draw either of these tags to hunt.  And residents get to hunt all of the general regions with an otc tag.  WY is like any other state some areas have lots of public land and other units will have very little.  There are lots of general region tags that you can draw with no point's.   And there will be some regions that will have tags leftover after the draw.

Thanks, being as I've never been there before, what would be a good region for a Wyoming rookie to look into? I'd prefer to hunt mid to late November but it looks like most of the hunts take place before that except for a lot of white tail hunts.

No mule deer to hunt that late in WY unless i'm forgetting something.  I think regions F, R, and Y all end in early November, have lots of public land, and can be drawn with no points.

Look at region H.  Plenty of public ground.  Western part of the state so you don't have to travel as far.  A mix of Sage Prairies and Timber can be hunted.

I've hunted Reg H 3 times. Each time with 0 pts. I have been shot down the last 2 yrs in a row. It appears pts are becoming a necessity. Alot more applicants on top of fewer non resident tags equals much lower draw odds.

Start buying points to hunt a decent region or unit. There is a reason tho 0 pt units take 0 pts. If you want to hunt nov in the rut then it takes several pts in one of the limited quota units. Not sure what kind of bucks you are looking to kill but kinda sounds like Montana fits your criteria better.

I have 2 antelope points and 1 deer point. Not sure where I'll put in for over there for antelope next year. Deer and I'm gonna build up some points and then try to figure out where to put in for.

I am not expecting to see big bucks in every draw. I just want a chance at a decent buck. Which to me is a solid 4 point atleast 20 inches wide or so. Id be happy with a buck like that, Id be happy with a small buck if i had to hunt my butt off for him as well. I dont really care, I just want to do something different. I was thinking regions R and F would be possibilities.

I have hunted antelope in WY and have max points for deer and elk. I have friends that have a certain level of tag drawing mojo that is unreal! They have hunted unit 30 for elk twice in that past 5 years, taking a few really nice bulls! This is an extremely difficult draw, this year they drew their general elk tag as a second choice, I don't know which unit they hunted but they killed 2 bulls and stuck a third one they never saw again, the one they lost and one of the other bulls were the two biggest bulls they had ever killed! Done with a second choice general tag!
I believe I will be applying with them next year!

Look into left over tags, your trip needs to be before november 1st because private land changes to buck season.

I have hunted Wyoming the last 4 years with a leftover cow/calf tag and have tagged out every year on public land.  I have hunted both 103 and 104.  I have seen massive big bulls in both units but have yet to draw. 
I would suggest that if you dont get drawn buy a left over tag and hunt for cow and calf to get a feel for the lay of the land.  If you have access to horses when you get there that truely is the way to go, otherwise you can only get in on foot most of the time and that is where all the other hunters are that do not have horses.

I have sent you a PM with some of my recent info on Region R, having been successful there 2 years in a row. I shot a 5x5 white tail last year on a walk-in area and a 22" wide 4x4 this year on BLM. Region R holds some great deer, but you have to be the opposite of most out of staters that hunt there; roadhunters. I've seen a few tanks and a lot of dinks. All due to hiking, walking and well, having a great friend whose in laws live in the area where I hunt.
