Slug stuck in barrel (again)
« on: October 03, 2013, 09:09:54 AM »
Knight bighorn
Slug is stuck inder where the factory rear sight is
Shot about 7 shots, 110gr 777, 300 gr SST.  Not swabing between shots, has always felt clean while loading
Was loading, and bullet stopped there.  Did not try to fire it out, as it was not fully seated.
Same thing/place happened Mon night
Monday it came right out after pulling the breech, and using ram rod.
Not so last night.  I think it started to mushroom and is locked in place

Started using grease gun to push out, but old grease gun doesn't have enough pressure.  Will get new lever gun on way home.

Sucks, I was thinking I might be getting sick, so wasn't planning on working today.  Went to work cause I couln't hunt :bash:

That sucks.  I have no advice other than to check the depth of the sight screws.  Maybe it is dimpling into the barrel if it is too deep.

If its an inline with removable plug, just remove BP, powder and use a good solid range rod and tap the bullet out. You're getting stuck on the crud ring buddy, some say they don't get it but if you're not swabbing, you are getting it.

Once its out, clean the bore completely, load up and then make a witness mark on your ramrod.

New grease gun built enough pressure.  once it moved, the ramrod pushed it the rest of the way out.

When it had stopped, and I tried to get it to seat, it looks like the SST started to expand.  Must be what wedged it in so tight

I have a witness mark, that's how I was alerted it wasn't fully seated.

Cleanup is complete.

Now I hope the weather is OK Friday....it looks like it will be.

T7 leaves the biggest or dirtiest crud ring in my barrel that I have tried. For me it was always necessary to wet patch after every shot with T7. But, if your gun shoots accurately with it then use it. I have found the American Powder is the cleanest (I've never used Blackhorn) if you find a load with it that your barrel likes try that. I use Pdex Sel mostly because my barrel is consistent with it even though I wish I could get better accuracy out of one of the non sulfur type powders. With a little more testing of the American Powder I think my barrel might like it with the big full bore conicals, range would be shortened to about a bit over a hundred yards though.
