So coming from the southwest part of the state I have always hunted the desert. Minimal trees and open fields for the most part. Scouting was always an easy task as all you had to do was drive around and glass. Well I moved to spokane a few months back and have been spending all my weekends and free time getting to know the Forrest around me. It is a day and night difference than what I am used to hunting. I have spent a lot of time on this site while at work and during the weekdays when I work, to gather all of the information I need for a successful season. I've read every article online it seems like, have bought and put out trail cameras ( witch were good and had good signs till my sites got overtaken by bears) spoke with a lot of people that mainly hunt Idaho but similar terrain. So I guess I'm learning to adjust to the heavy timber of 113 and learning everything new again witch I do not mind as I like to explore. So besides the tips from the road hunters that say just cruise roads till I see a buck, I want some input on a few methods and what everyone thinks. My first plan o attack was to walk heavy game trails and see patterns ( water, food, bedding areas ) and try and locate fresh tracks than stalk the areas. My second plan was to walk the creeks and try and locate secondary creek and drainages and find the one with the freshest track than sit on that area before moving on. Well since I am muzzle load hunting and my early season ends this Saturday but my elk season opens up I can accomplish to things. I can scout for elk while I hunt for bear and deer. Another question I have is last weekend while hunting I saw one buck and a handful of moose. Didn't hear a single bugle or saw a mulley. So I'm guessing I might be a lol too high in elevation or in an area that is crowded with moose for deer to stick around. What does everyone think ? Any info will be highly appreciated.
