I'll bet that one hurt.  The ram on the left looks like a beauty and the one in the middle isn't too shabby either...

Yes.  They better learn to duck.  Tribal guys came in behind me when they saw me parked and my camera.   That was probably the biggest I saw.

This is better suited for another topic, but what the heck.   I sat overlooking a herd, 58 ewes and 8 rams, and THREE LAMBS I assume its coyotes or predators.  That is horrible recruitment though.

I don't Quad.   Star would know better or possibly Pope or the Greenhaws.  They live and breathe sheep.  I just have them in my yard.

I read an article a while back about a radio collared mt lion in AZ that was documented killing a bighorn about every 10 days.
That would put a dent in the population.

That guy had a bad day for sure.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

I've seen rams live a long time after loosing one horn, and in one case I know of both horns. One OR ram I saw had "slipped" both horns, one one year after the other. I watched him for the next 5 years and had actually grew some base back to cover the open bone sections. He was a weird looking old ram I nick named Troll. He died at age 12 one winter.
Lots of times these rams will chip a horn so bad they get an air hole into the core which in turn will cause the membrane to rot on that side. One pop and off it comes with no ill effects to the ram. Some get a sinus infection causing the same result or it causes the horns to become brittle. That could be the case with this ram having been exposed to pasturella during the 1999-2011 die off.
