I'm from North Carolina but I was transferred from the west side of the state JBLM. So I'm really new to Yakima. All I have to do is head out 410 towards whistling jacks to get to this area right? I was thinking of going to the Nile 652 GMU someone told me to take the first left past jacks and head up into those roads. Thanks for all information. It's not too bad out here. A lot of time to yourself lol. What's a good time to hunt them.

I don't always shoot big mule deer, but when I do, it's with a bow tech!

Get yourself a map that shows roads of the area so you don't get lost up there. Not saying you will but it can happen if you aren't familiar with the area. I really don't think there is a best time of the day to shoot them. I've seen plenty of them at all hours of the day. Never really hunted specifically for them though. There are decent numbers in any of the places listed. And they are the most delicious game bird I've ever eaten. Lol

Talk to Judy at the MWR CENTER. She is the manager and through MWR OFFICE you get your permitt. You will need to watch a safety video. About 10 minutes. They will give you a map. Last I checked they always have chukar.

Dear Elk;
I grew up back east and hunted grouse in PA, although the ruffed grouse is technically the same species east and west, they don't behave the same! I never saw a ruffed grouse on the ground, during hunting season before I moved out here. You will not believe their behavior; walking, clucking, sitting on a branch and letting you approach with in thirty feet etc. No wonder people find them suitable for  pistol, bow and rock! But they taste the same! I still hunt them but you may find Quail more conducive to your experiences, you can find quite a few coveys just south of the barracks, across the air strip to the boundary then east to the Ammo dump. Pheasants are north of the  tank wash back to the west boundary, behind the Maintenance sheds then out to Squaw Tit. Enjoy they don't let us Civ's hunt that close , use to be able too!! I would check if GI can. If not, that YTC has a nice population of birds, make friends with the range control guys or just keep a eye out while on base. Enjoy, PM me if you need details.............

Any of the 1900 roads off the little naches road has grouse..
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...
