Gramps quick Selkirk hunt!
« on: October 07, 2013, 12:33:13 AM »
Left home at 10am Friday morning and arrived in town that evening at 5:30pm. After getting checked into the motel and unloading gear I talked gramps and my old man into jumping back into the rig and heading up towards the closest moose territory as we only had a hour of shooting light. After driving for 20 minutes we were getting close to the State land that we could hunt. I had just announced that we were in "official moose hunting grounds" when I look over and see 3 cows and a young bull, and they were on public land! I turn down the logging road, gramps and I get out and I ask him if he wants to get it done now? Gramps replies with the official "hell yes!" I load the old '06 and hand it to him and the rest is history! Bull down!
I have been on a lot of hunts with my gramps and this was by far the quickest. We check into motel at 5:30pm and 6:35pm we're standing over his bull moose. Luckily we had a couple local buddies from town on speed dial and they helped us get him quartered and packed ( 30 yards ) back to the truck. We were able get him hung up in their shop and back to the room by 12am. I got a couple cell pictures but nothing great due to leaving the good camera in the room :bash:. Thanks to Brian who pointed us in the right direction and I wish we could have hunted with ya.
My gramps is 86 and said this was going to be his last hunt, but just this morning he tells me " I might have to draw another tag for something next year". Sign me up for that one!

Pictures showed up sideways on here so I deleted them.
