Now, now folks lets not jump to conclusions. After all we only here what the news wants us to. According to the news this morning the Lakewood PD arrested the poor misunderstood youths early this morning. Too bad they couldn't fit them into a body bag.

The article I saw last week stated, the soldier was killed for being a racist.
The article claimed he yelled something at the car, in response to something that was said by those in the car.

According to the account I heard, after they yelled racist slurs from the car, he told them they should have more respect for service members. That's when the attackers got out and started the problems.

This is frightening and sad at the same time, I hate seeing these heartbreaking stories.. RIP to the victim and prayers to his family

This happened literally down the road from my work, and we have safety meetings once a month because this area has gotten so bad. We have homeless who sleep under our building's awning, we've found our parking lot littered with needles, there are garbage divers and aggressive people who yell just walking through the lot. It's scary to have to be armed and have pepper spray just getting into my office building in the mornings.

But to a man (and woman) everybody I have met who served has been the absolute least racially biased people I have ever met

That's what I didn't understand either... because they're soldiers they're inept of doing a hate crime??  I don't see how one would have to do with the other.

there were plenty of blacks in the army when i was in that hated whites, we were all grunts most of us were in with a strong desire to fight for our country and then there were a few that were there because they had no other place to go, of course those types weeded themselves out pretty quickly. when it came time for a couple deployments a certain group would jump ship at the very word "GOING TO COMBAT" it was a mass exoudus of that group.... very rarely did they fall under the same category as a "HONORABLE SOLDIER" hopefully they are subject to military justice, i just hope it the same as it was as the late 80s and early 90s

I had two ship mates shot on our own soil right after Viet Nam. Peace loving hippy protesters my a$$. They have passed on the hatred to their children. And we wonder why our country is so hosed up today?

About ten years ago, we were on one of the carriers in Bremerton, rebuilding antenna sponsons for Raytheon.  Low and behold, forward on the hangar deck was a sign on a door saying Gang Counselor...........I asked if it was for real, and was told it was a full time job.

 That never would have flown when I was in back in the early 70s.  I couldnt believe all the baggy pants and cockeyed ball caps comin off the ship at the end of each day..........heads would have rolled in the 70s............made me sick.

i didn't see much of it in the late 80s early 90s but i was on a small ship and then Alameda NAS for a while.

I was an MP at Ft Lewis 87-90........Gangs on post, both Soldiers and Sons of Soldiers was a big problem.....if One needs to get out of da hood for a while, and get some good military training, joining is the thing to do. Lots of gang members in the military, believe it or not.

Nope. I'm active duty combat arms NCO with multiple deployments. What I said is true, tons of stupid people in the Army. Many of them are great in combat and when civilized rules don't necessarily apply, but once you get them back home and around their buddies and bad habits things can go south in a hurry.
