Funny that this would be started by the same person that claims there are no Elk in the Blues.  Crazy world we live in. .....

Hear is my honey hole,  since my wife is prego and she wants me to stay close to town.  Get a good scale hiking map and look up orange pumpkin ridge off of spur road ****.  Please keep this a secret and don't tell anyone.

anyone want a partner hunt for late archery?

Hope you know the legal boundaries where you can hunt.  Only a tiny fraction of that burn  is even open for the late archery.

Since this area came up in conversation figured we should start a thread dedicated to the burn. We all know from last year that there are huge bucks growing in there since the burn. Maybe someone with experience can let us all know the in and outs of hunting the burn? I for one would love to get better educated on how to properly hunt the burn to better my dream of killing a monster buck!!! Thanks to all for your inputs!
Lets see, I've never hunted a area so I will start a thread so the guys that do hunt it will show me where to kill a big buck there.  :dunno:

That's exactly what I was hoping! :yeah:

the only way to find big bucks is to get your butt out there and hoof it.  no one in their right mind will tell squat on a public site like this one.  I have been to desert 10 different days scouting for my sons deer tag and have seen little.  don't ask for info always develop your own.  thank you,  mike w

On a serious note about the burn.  It typically takes three years to learn an area.  First year is a scouting mission and you might get lucky. Second year scout and probably get a buck or see a lot. And by the third year you should have it figured out or move on to a new area.
The crowds will die off in a year or so, once someone else kills a big buck in another unit.  The deer genetics are there if the deer have a chance to live long enough.

If you can find a good vantage point at first light and let the crowds push the deer around you could have a pretty good hunt.

Good luck.

Talked with hunters in Winthrop yesterday.  They were headed for the burn.  Looking for a place to camp close to it.  The USFS has closed all Forest Service campgrounds and locked the bathrooms.
