Coachcw,

If the hunter is looking for a monster buck in three years, then he will be waiting a lot longer and maybe even a life time.  Although if he is looking for a respectable mature mule deer,  then this is a good plan of attack.  It's all about your personal expectations.

Our family has a little over 40 years experience hunting that general area 20 years for myself.  This will be the first season in my life we are not hunting that area...

Blacktailer, those are some beautiful bucks, especially the one with the dropper!

If there really was an interest in this area, why in the world would you post it in a hunting forum three days before the general opener?

I guess it really does not matter, Bone said it correctly:

There have been monster bucks there forever,  someone just finally shot one.

Besides the color of the landscape changes drastically from solid oranges within a 1/4 mile of any access point, to blood trail red a couple miles further in,  :chuckle:

:yeah: :yike:  In the last 3 seasons we've seen more and more predator sign.  Both Dogs and Cats.  I took a shot at a Cat around noon 3 years ago after we scared it off a 3pt he took down.  Unfortunately he ran fast and changed direction even faster... :bash: :bash:

I recently met a hunting partner of the guy who shot that Tripod monster. It was his first year hunting that area and they got lucky. I hunted it several days earlier that week and hiked in probably 5 miles past the gate from the Ramsey Creek side. He claimed they came in from the north and weren't  that far from the road.
I've hunted that general (Cougar Lake, Blue Buck, Beaver/Bowen) area since the 1970's and don't look forward to the zoo it's gonna be this year.
