Today's work at the grinder.
« on: October 07, 2013, 10:06:06 PM »
Just a simple straight blade.  The blade is 5.25" and handle is about 4.5" and the steel is .157 thick.  I still need to take the bevel just a tad higher.

A file will make for a fine knife, but you will have to anneal it grind your edge and then re harden the blade to make it last. :twocents: If not it will be to brittle at the handle and partially annealed at the blade.  :twocents:

Yup, you are right.  That is why I annealed the file first

All by hand.  I draw out what I basically want on paper then transfer it to the steel.  Then just start grinding and make changes as I go.

I've been a lot of things over the years but never a "professional" fabricator.  I just tinker around with stuff these days, just do it for fun.

Heat treated, tempered and ready for a handle.  Have to go get some epoxy for that.  Also this is what I sketched out on paper today.
