Wynoochee Deer - Modern:
« on: October 08, 2013, 10:05:20 AM »
Am taking my two sons (10 & 12) hunting this weekend.  Have hunted in Ea Wa for Mulies that last few years with little luck.  So I figured since I was bring my sons for weekend we'd hunt 648 which has some better harvest stats.  My son's will be walking with me (in orange) and not carrying a weapon.

I drove up the Wynoochee Valley Road yesterday and explored all the timber land up there all the way to the forest lands.   I've got a couple of questions.

*  Is that a pretty decent area to hunt?  I'm sure I'll see some other orange up there so I'm not worried about that.  Looks like there's plenty of reprod & clearcuts to watch.
*  Where do you camp?  I see from the Weyerhauser access site you can't camp on their lands.  I have a truck and Camper so I don't need much space, but would like to have a fire.  Am I limited to going up to the National Forest lands?  I'm ok with dispersed camping.

Thanks in advance for any help.

There are some nice areas to hunt over there, I am guessing they will get some pressure this weekend?

I doubt the campground will be open because of the gov shutdown so I'd just throw out a tent and a cot along the road someplace and call it good. As long as you keep it clean and don't build a roaring bonfire I don't think that anyone wil bother you. You can't camp on Green Diamond (Simpson) lands so make sure you're in the national forest. I don't think I'd go all the way up into the national park and camp either but you can't hunt there anyway. That's probably where you will see the buck of a lifetime and end up taking pics and crying like a baby as he walks away. :chuckle:

How did it look out there this weekend? I drove around Matlock Sunday afternoon just to get out for a drive. Saw a fair number of hunters out driving around. Funny, spotted a nice little two point while we were taking a break.
