Boy's first deer

My son Trenton drew the Skookumchuck buck tag. Vail tree farm was nice enough to let the youth hunters in for their hunt, without having to buy the access permit. Thanks!! So of course it rains and storms all week prior to the hunt, and then it was 70-75 degrees on the weekend. Usually in Vail you see a ton of deer, but with that hot weather we were worried that we wouldn't see much. Saturday we saw about 15 does, but no bucks. Sunday was worse, we didn't see a deer till about 11oclock. Finally at about 4:30 Sunday afternoon, we came around a corner and there was 2 does and another deer that Trenton said was a spike, but they ran up the bank. So we stop the truck and climb up the bank. Trent gets up there before me, but the only deer up there was the doe. We jumped back down to the road, and sure enough, the other 2 deer are up the road about 100 yards from us. Trent got set up on the shooting sticks, and I said let me make sure it's a spike. The deer were standing straight away from us, I was just about to tell him wait till he turns, and the deer turns broadside, and BOOM. I thought he missed, so I said shoot again, and this time he breaks his back right above the shoulders, and down he went. So then we bro hugged real quick and then went up the road to check his buck out. Nice little spike, and he dropped it right on the road. Great job Trenton, so proud of you!
