First we shoot, then we dance!
« on: October 10, 2013, 10:54:49 AM »
Despite the down pouring of rain, a wall of hale, snow mixed with thunder and lighting, generator dying, heat and water going out in the camper.  My wife is over the moon excited with the adventure and her 2013 Selkirk Shiras Bull.   However, adding this accomplishment to her 2011 Peaches Bull Elk there may be no peace in my house for a long time to come.

She dropped her 42" bull at 105 yards with a 300 WSM.  It was the 4th and largest Bull we had called in during the opening day of the season.  This Bull came very Hot, Grunting and thrashing everything in his path all the while another Bull was approaching us from up hill and behind.

All though she swore "I'm gonna hold out for a 50" we both new we have a very limited time to hunt, and a few more inches of antler would add very little if anything to this amazing adventure.

With that in mind, once this Bull appeared from the tree line, her switch flipped and she whispered " I want this Bull" I replied "It's your tag and your Hunt, take him if you want him".  She wasted no time in climbing into her rifle and steadied for the shot.  Once I had the camera rolling, I gave her the OK  "Shoot" no sooner than I said the word and BOOM!!  From that moment on I experienced something very different hunting with my wife that I have never experienced with my buddies.  Typically you shoot, wait and retrieve,  then you HI-Five and shake hands over your kill.

Not with my wife  "First we Shoot, Then we Dance"  Only after the dancing is over do we go find the Bull.   :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:

The greatest part of the venture aside from sharing this OIL experience with my wife (ON OUR HONEYMOON) "Her Choice" was being able to catch all the action on GOPRO video.

It took one full day of packing on the horses to get it back to camp and three days of cutting and wrapping to get the meat in the freezer and the head off to the taxi.

Now we're off to fill her 2nd Deer Tag and then to fill her Palouse Buck tag.

A husbands work is never done.

That'll make a nice mount for the living room.  Then there's the story that goes with it.

The only problem with the wife hunting is finding the extra money for all the extra hunts and gear. You're a good husband. And a lucky man. Great job to the both of you!

Congrats to Bobbi....and you too I guess. She's had a great couple years.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

That's real good! Appreciate the story . Me and my wife can relate to that quite well! Not to jack the thread but we got engaged over a dead bear I had shot enroute to a Mtn. top where I had planed the proposal. And from there on out seems the plan always changes!
