Horse Elk Packing
« on: October 29, 2008, 10:58:57 PM »
Is it like allright, legal and ethical to park the horse trailer and off load the horses and advertise to pack elk out to the road from the trails? I've done this in Idaho out of the St. Joe but don't know what the Washington fuzz has to say about it and I can't seem to find any info on the WOGA (Washington Outfitters Guide Association).

Is lt like cool to ask $200 cash up front after you have tagged and bagged your animal to remove it off the cliff with my pack stock?

YEAH horses are allright!!!

I do not see anything wrong with it as it is a service.  But who knows... I am assuming the WDFG people who monitor this site will reply.

I know the outfitter down at bumping will pack your elk out after you shot it and give him a call. I think it is 250 I do not remember. Business lic. you might need because you are rendering a service for profit.. :twocents: Hopefully someone can give you a proper answer. O by the way If I saw you I would hand over 200 for a pack out. Would not hesitate.

I heard there was a steep tax on that in Wa.

Obama and Gregoire will be there to collect $190 of it for "Change"    :chuckle: :chuckle:

One thing I would look into is a Forest Service Use Permit.  I think you need one if you do anything for hire on forest service land.  You could get away with it until someone else who got the permit finds out you are haulling for hire and turns you in.  I would check into the permit.

ya need a forest service permit, and minimum 1 mill. bond to do business in F.S. land.  If you are doing it "for donation" it's legal, but you can still be sued until the horses come home.

In Idaho you have to be a Licensed Outfitter to pack anyone's elk out for money! If you're not I wouldn't mention it on a public forum, if you are then no worries!! (grin)

I think its a great idea, get a bunch of hunters in the area & pass out business cards with a cell # and cb channel. I would definitely be a part of that and it would let me hunt deeper alone knowing I have a haul out. I would love it if you were set up around my area, I would even drop off a couple of bails of hay & a twelve pack. I don't think the authorities would dick with you to much, not enough money to police & no real crime going on. They have enough trouble policing all the other people in the state. I hunted out on the coast & had a helicopters # in case we killed one deep in a canyon, like I said nice to have it available so you can hunt deeper in. Mike
