I hunt several areas year round near Dayton, boot hunting deer and/or coyote. gates are shut most of the year. I avoid hunting opening day but was out driving some of the gated roads with my wife this afternoon. We were back in a ways, parked overlooking an area and darned if I didn't spot a doe and then nice little two point about 100 ft from where we were as soon as I stepped out of the jeep. I am an experienced enough hunter to know to always bring a rifle when the season is open. It was sitting in the back seat of the jeep, no help and I wasn't really set up to do any serious hunting. The enlightening part of my story is to always be ready, this was opening day at two in the afternoon when a buttload of vehicles were in the area. We were just out for a drive. It was a fine afternoon, fall colors are coming out, saw a fair amount of hunting vehicles. My plan has been/is to be out there the middle of this week, in hunting mode. Probably won't see a single deer!
