Advice please!
« on: November 27, 2013, 04:23:32 PM »
I got home today from work and hit the woods around 230. I didn't seem any deer but I did run across a really nice rub and them another and then another. Along with that, lots of hoof prints big and small. The area I'm hunting is thick, as in no clear cuts around amd even with sunlight vison is minimal. Dark and thick; western wa! I haven't had much luck calling in deer, but said I was gonna try it again this year. I'm curious if I should try to call amd just sit and be patient or try to hit some of these trails in the area? And when I say trails I mean game trails. Amy advice very much appreciated, thankyou and I hope everyone who is still hunting good luck!!!! And post em if you get em, no matter the size. :)

the most effective way i have found to bowhunt this area in the thick woods that the deer love so much is to go out in the summer, scout their trails, main crossings, and habits. which it sounds like you are already on board with that. but then instead of trying to be stealth on the move, i like to set up several blinds in my favorite spots and still hunt. it can be very cold boring and long hunts, but it beats jumping that big bruiser before you know hes there, whil trying to make your way through the trails. i have fiscovered theses black tails to be extremely habitual, at least the local ones. so if the sign is there they should be back. also helps to clear several shooting lanes 360 degrees around it. if you dont its almost like they know the one place you cant get a shot

 :yeah:

I would also look for a Intersection of trails near the rubs. Set up there be quiet and wait. Use scent killer. Sit in the shadows if you can. Use a low chair like a beach chair if you need to to keep comfortable. Most people cannot not sit still long enough.
