Another opening day success
«
on:
October 12, 2013, 11:57:59 PM »
SO after watching 5 different two points this morning I finally spotted a shooter about 9:00 the only problem was he was about six hundred yards away then I thought you can't kill one if you don't shoot so of course I let lead fly with my three hundred and what do you know I dropped him then the work began probly the worst drag of my life I shot the buck at 9 and started dragging at 9:40 my dad and i had the deer to the truck at. 2:00 I have been cramping up all evening long after the drag from you know where. Oh well it will be well worth the meat in the freezer.

Why not bone it out?
Why not at least quarter it; its worth it just so you don't have to gut it.
Looks a lot like the buck my bro killed pictured below.

Thanks Guys, Its not usually this tough to get up and over the hill with a deer that is whole we manage to do it every year it seems we just chose a different path this year as he was a little closer to the canyon we chose to go up rather than the one we usually do and it had some more obstacles that werent apparent form the bottom. This buck was a little heavier bodied than the ones in the past and the other sad reality is we are just plain getting older. My dad is now 69 years old and that guy is an animal im 34 and hope i'm half the guy he is when i'm his age. I am so lucky to have such an awesome dad that is still as spry as a 40 year old and enjoys hunting as much as i do. I like to get the animals out whole it just seams easier and cleaner all the way around i like to tube them and then carry them down to the cooler and let them hang and stretch the meet for about 4 days before i bone it out and cut it up. Remember Pain is Temporary Here is a little taste of where we went up with him its steeper and rougher than it looks in the photo the other part is they just dont slide like they used to before the fire the grass was a lot thicker then too much bare dirt to add resistance now.
