tag soup
« on: December 31, 2013, 08:46:37 PM »
first time in a few years.  Just filed my hunter report.  I didn't hunt enough in Sept and they changed patterns in my usual spots in Dec. and I had trouble locating them.  Once I did find them, I hit and didn't kill one  :bash:  Never thought that'd be me but it was.  One kid put one in the freezer so all was not lost.  Oh well.  Hit it harder next year.  But we say that every year don't we?  :chuckle:

I've killed 3 over the last 2 years and then shot another one this year that was supposed to be #4 in 3 years but it wasn't meant to be.  244 days until I can go at it again

Yea, I filed my report last night too. No deer for me either. It was my third year trying with my recurve bow hunting the late season beginning the Monday after Thanksgiving.

First year I hit a small doe but couldnt recover it after looking for a full day. Last year I missjudged distance and shot just low and this year I blew the perfect stalk and missed an easy downhill shot by shooting just high. Ive become a MUCH better hunter over the past three years but when it got down to it I couldnt make the shot. Oh well, Ive had an absolute blast trying.

For next year...I gotta get out and practice in the actual area I'm going to be hunting rather then walking around shooting hay bales around my house. Downhill shots, shooting from my knees or while crouched. Anything to come as close to the actual circumstances I would face in a hunt.

At least I'm not alone on this front.  Went out for bow this season and things just didn't work out in my favor.  My doctor didn't want me running around the woods in between treatments.  Next year I think I'm going out for gun season since I got a big discount at work for working thanksgiving and bought a new Remington 770 for about 175 after tax.  I may just sit out next season and save up for 2015 and line up some property to hunt.  Got some time to figure things out though.  Congrats to all those that actually punched there tags this season.
Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27:3
