2013 opening day buck
«
on:

my 2013 deer season started in September during archery season where i had some blown stalks and a buck duck my arrow at 26 yards........
then muzzle loader where i had several opportunities to shoot a couple decent bucks but decided to pass on them.then on the last day of muzzle loader i decided to go hunt some ground on the breaks of the palisades. well i found some legal bucks but couldn't get close enough to seal the deal. my buddy and i decided to go over for opening weekend of rifle. the canyon i wanted to hunt had someone else in it so we left.we made a big loop into another set of draws and finally found a 3 point,i was going to try and get on this buck. so as we started down the hill to get out of sight i glassed the draw about 600 yards away. and im a glad that i did,i spotted a bigger buck. my buddy put the spotting scope on him and said he is a 4 point. we sat in one spot for 20 minutes deciding how to get on this buck. i knew i needed to get to 300 yards to be very comfortable with a shot. the only choice we had was to belly crawl 300 yards! it took us about an hour and a half of crawling though the crp grass.once we got to 300 yards it was a waiting game for the deer to stand up. we watched him for 30 minutes before he stood up. as soon as he stood up i was benched in and solid, i let him have it he took about 5 steps and tipped over. turned out he was a 4x5 with eye gaurds
thanks for reading and hope everyone else has a good season!
