Wolf numbers in 113?
« on: October 14, 2013, 05:28:37 PM »
I have been moose hunting the last 2 weeks in Selkirk, and am wondering how many wolves are they saying are there, because I had 3 encounters in 3 different areas in the unit in the 2 weeks up there?

I ran into 12 the best that I could tell by tracks last year by Pettite Lake/Leclerc crk, and another 5 on the Idaho side of Kalispell same day.

They are definitely up the Leclerc creek drainage. Seen tracks all over in there the last couple years.

Have been long before they finally declared the first pack was in Washington.   I guess that's because they are Idaho wolves.  :dunno:

PS notice the caribou signs are down and the wolf signs have replaced them.   Go figure  I guess protected the endangered wolf was more important. :dunno:

This is worrying me I have a first year hunter this year (my youngest) and was going to try to put him on a doe this weekend up there but the signs have been non existent where we usually go.  If we can't get into them up there for him I guess it's going to be scramble time.   :bash:

:yeah: I was perplexed at how the mountain caribou became chopped liver as soon as wolves were introduced.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Considering you have a youth just wanting a doe, you should be able to get permission pretty easily. In the southern part of the unit (with alfalfa fields) start knockin on doors. Worst they can say is no  :dunno:

May have to before the end of the season but right now we're going to keep going after it,  dad's going to keep doing his best to get him on horns.  It's about the experience, I wish everyday was spent in the woods with my boys.
