Nice looking guns guys. I don't have a favorite since I have 8 ML rifles.
I have 45's, 50's and a 54. 4 sidelocks and 4 inlines. They cover barrel twists of
1:20, 1:24, 1:32, 2 with 1:28, 1:48, and 1:66. I've been debating what to use
for late ML season which opens on Monday, think I will use the .45's since it will
be whitetail only.
Haven't hunted with a centerfire for decades. Back in 1978 built a CVA Mountain
Rifle. There was no ML season back then and got it because the boss bought a
T/C Hawken to shoot off on New Years Eve, and it looked neat.
Back in 1992 all the deer in unit 133 were winter killed, so in 1993 they opened a
late season ML hunt in unit 136 where I lived. Bought a new Knight Wolverine 54
cal. Killed a Muley buck every year. I have about 8-10,000 acres of private land
to hunt between 133 and 136. The early season is usually too hot and I had a
couple of heart attacks in Aug so the early season was out.
It's hard to have a favorite cause it seems you are always looking for the perfect
rifle. Truth is, they all shoot great and anyone of them will do the job if you do
yours. I'm glad the regulations are as they are cause muzzleloading should be
basically primitive as possible, not a dumbed down 30-06.
