Blacktail RUT -- Roy, WA
« on: October 16, 2013, 09:14:12 PM »
Went over to my neighbors house today were I got my big black tail a few years ago and 2 different spikes... There has got to be a nice buck in there cause there is Fresh Rubs were there wasn't anything at when I parked there Monday Morning for the Morning Hunt...

I just hope I end up getting the buck that is tearing up the trees!

I WILL post pics tomorrow afternoon/evening!

I know it's not Roy, but here's a small 3 by 3 that showed up this morning... he's still here hangin' with a doe. Never seen him before. He's not interested much in eating, just following and making circles around the house. They're definitely getting ready for some action.

Does rattling work as well on blacktails as it does whites?

Yes it can work. But just like whiteys it has to be the right time. Rasbo a coupke years back rattled in a nice buck. If I remember correctly he was still hunting through some reprod and rattling every so often as he moved. I would think the last week of Oct is your best bet.

OCTOBER 31st. It can work, If you're going to do it, I would try midday, don't bother at dusk because that's when they'll come out anyways, so I don't think it's worth a possible spooking.  :twocents:

It was just a spiker but I saw my first rut activity last night. He was lip curling (the best he could  :chuckle: ) and had his nose right up a does behind. I think some deer are going to die this weekend

Watched a doe repeatedly chase her fawns off last night, she even reared up and kicked the crap out of the buck fawn when he came back.  It is about to get good!
Hunting and Fishing are not matters of life or death... THEY ARE WAY MORE IMPORTANT!!!
