Leaking kayak/duck boat made for a hunting bust last night
« on: October 15, 2013, 11:51:03 AM »
I duck hunt out if a kayak. So yesterday I went out hunting and paddled my way across Lake Kapowsin. It took me an hour of paddling (dragging my decoy bag behind me) to get to my spot, at which point I started setting up decoys. Getting ready for a nice evening hunt. I got all set up and had my kayak backed into some reeds for cover when I realized my kayak had a lot of water in it. I thought maybe I had done it while setting up so I bailed water and settled back in. I say there for about 15 minutes and realized I had gained substantial water again. My kayak was taking on water fast!

So as far as I could I packed decoys and hustled back to the docks. The hour of paddling only took me 40 coming back and in that 40 minutes I had gained over 3 inches of water! Not how I intended on spending my night. I went home soaked and empty handed. Time to find the leak and patch it before next weekend.

That is unfortunate sorry you had to cut your hunt short! How do you like duck hunting out of the kayak? i have been thinking about getting one to hunt out of as well.

I actually really like it. It's not quite as stable as the sneak boats, but cheaper and I can get it in anywhere.

Patch it and get back out there.
Glad you didn't end up swimming.

Was it a crack, holes or worn thin?  Did you do a fiberglass patch or some duc tape?

It was a hairline crack. And I fixed it right.
