This is what your Lab will look like after eating a rock that is to big to pass threw his system. Along with a $1700.00 Vet bill.

Wow....

Is rock eating a common issue with dogs?

Bummer! Blockages are scary. One of my GSP's blocked from a tiny pinch of dried grass.

I would like to see the rock that was the culprit, I have seen many rocks that have passed through on their own, and I bet the rock that caused your pups blockage was a dandy!

It was not huge but big enough. He just turned 6 months so not much room in there. Labs are the number one breed for Intestinal obstruction.

Bet for $1700, you could put in a chain link kennel with a concrete floor.
Disclaimer; I built mine a number of years ago and have no idea what current prices are.
Most pups get into trouble like that when unattended, I have no idea if this is the case, I'm just going on my own past experiences.
Spent most of my $$ on huntin, fishin & retrievin dogs, the rest I just pretty much wasted.

Glad your pups OK. I had a dog pass a piece of concrete right on the exam table about 2 minutes before surgery was about to go down. Not fun.

Had a setter that ate a rock,it didn't interfere with nothing, actually found it while x raying hips,My vet said to leave it be.I actually gave that dog away to a board member on here.He ususally posts pictures of the dog with birds every year about this time.My vet don't charge near that much for the same thing,my parents golden retriever ate some welding wire trash from mig welder and had to have it removed,it was a 900 dollar bill to have it removed.

Yep. labs are bad with that.  I caught my lab chewing on a rock the size of my fist. it was too big to swallow,... but I took it away anyways.  he will literally chew on and eat ANYTHING.
we stopped buying him toys because they only last him one day, and I start finding pieces of they toys in his poop the next day.  :yike:
