Sorry to say I didn't fill my tag this weekend in Republic so I'll be trying again on a tag I drew for the Whitetail hunt in the Pearrygin GMU Nov 1 thru the 20th.  I have heard they can be tricky to find unless you are hunting private land in this GMU.  I spoke to the local biologist, Scott Fitkin, and he said to hunt the drainages on Bear, Beaver, and the South Fork of Salmon Creek.  My plan is to hunt them as close as I can to private land on the weekends of the 10th and 19th..  I hunted this area many years ago so I am a little familiar with it.  For all the Methow hunters out there, does this sound reasonable?

Used to see white tails down low in the Perrygine unit(by the state park or the golf course or the WDFW office on Lower Bear Creek Rd). I haven't seen one in years. My bet is they all stay in the river bottom. Lots of luck getting permission from the granola crowd that infests a large part of that area now.

Good luck to ya. The whitetails are in the river bottom. It will be next to impossible to find one in any of the mentioned areas. Wolf haven and all. Try knockin on some doors. Try up river near twisp winthrop rd.
What would life be without the thrill of the hunt?

I saw quite a few white tail running with the mulies by twin lakes.

I'd try door knocking where you see herds of cattle, not too many anti-hunting granola cattle ranchers, and many of them have an anti-whitetail bias.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Thanks for the replies fellas! Looking at the satellite images there is some thick stuff along some creek beds by the golf course. Think I'll start there with my grunt tube and rattle bag. Appreciate the help!

Mostly private property around the golf course. Knock on some doors first. I wouldn't bother with the "artist's" house just above the golf course. Making an assumption on that one, I could be wrong.
