Injury or case of hoof rot?

So what do you all think, is this a case of hoof rot on a deer or just some type of injury to the bottom of its foot?

does it have a foul odor to it?

I would not call it a strong, foul odor, but more of a sour, almost acidic odor...at least to my nose anyway.

I would think infection. From what i've read the hoof rot that the sw elk has will not spread to deer.

Hoof rot.  Although normally the hoof is deformed looking.  any other views?

You can see a little bit in front of the sore spot if you compare it to the other side, but that's about the best view possible.  From the top it really doesn't show much.

WDFW biologist I spoke to and shared the same picture with wasn't overly concerned, said he would pass it on to their veterinarian and then get back to me if they wanted the leg/foot for samples.

No word back from WDFW, so sounds like it probably isn't anything worrisome... Thanks for all the input.

when goats get that it starts to smell bad quick, loooks more like a injury.

 Not hoofrot but I'm not sure what the heck it may be!
