First time hunter's experience
« on: October 18, 2013, 01:50:26 PM »
I'm new to the forum and to hunting. Grew up in Oregon and moved to Eastern Washington a few years ago. Always wanted to get into hunting but never had anyone to "show me the ropes."
Anyway, I went out for opening day with a buddy this year who has some experience. We were up near Mesa and didn't see any buck in the morning so we went over to Kahlotus. On the ridge we saw 4 beautiful 3-point mules about 600 yards away, so we high tailed it over to where we could hike up. When we got to the top of the ridge (of course), we realized it was private land, so we hiked back down. We had to head back into town that night, so I bought a Washington chip for my GPS and we found some state land we could hunt around there. Went back for a 3 day trip on Tuesday and saw about 40 doe, 1 spike, and nothing else. Looks like the land owners cleaned up pretty well out there. Tried heading over toward Ritzville the last day but no luck there either. Anyways, I'm hoping to learn a lot from the experience of others in the forum, and hopefully be able to make some successful trips out in the future!

Sounds like you did everything right except bring home a buck or two. Your times coming.
