My son played his cross town rival on Thursday and his coach gave the team the night off. Since he did not have practice we took off hunting as soon he came home from school. As we were driving to our hunting location, I see a doe cross the road then a buck and of course it is thicker then heck from where they came from and some what open to where they went.
We run up to where they crossed and the land dropped down about 40 feet. We could not see them. I had the deer call and let out the two short BHHHAAAP. Then the buck popped out between two trees about 100 yards from us but we have a great view point. Jacob’s first shot was on the money but the buck just humped up and stood there. I then told him to hit it again and he aimed a little higher his second shot dropped it in its tracks. The first one was a good shot and you can see it just behind the front shoulder but it was still standing so you take care of business until it is down. We did the high fives and holy smokes what just unraveled in front of us. And headed to the buck and took a few pictures and dragged it up by the road and started the knife work on the tailgate.
I got back to the house when the kids started showing up for the tricker treating and was met by a new friend that I helped out on his Toutle elk hunt. He scored me some jalapeno elk pepperoni and some summer elk sausage. So I got a treated… We had to really move quick to move the deer into the garaged to keep the deer from the view of the little kids. We have some Obama advocates in our development…
Anyway, Jacob was pumped and so was I. Now I have to match or beat his points to support the geezers. It was a good 3X2 and had a non scoreable point around the base.
Here are some pictures...
