Mason county blacktail in first hour of hunting.
« on: October 18, 2013, 08:10:57 PM »
I raced out to the Belfair to hunt for the weekend at my parents house.   Had 2 hours of light for hunting tonight so I decided to check a spot I found a 2 pt last year.   Walked in a little bit and took a squat.   I let out a few doe calls and waited for 20 minutes and let out one more.  Next thing I know I can hear things cracking on the ground in the brush about 15 yards away behind me.   My heart started pumping like crazy and I rolled over and stood up and no buck......?  So I sat back down and watched my spot and next thing you know he circled around and was staring right at me!   I couldn't pass him up.    Pile drove him at 40 yards and watched him take a step cane fall over.

I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...

I'm new to washington for one, but I was out in north Mason today as well! Where do you say would be a good area to get into in the area? Where I was today, Green Diamond land, off of 3, was nothing but waist to chest high brush. Ive hunted eat coast deer my entire life, this is all new to me, any help would be appreciated...

Thanks guys.  It was a night to remember.   Never had a black tail do that before.  I. Used to hunting them for days without seeing a single one.

I hunted north mason this morning.  I cant believe the number of hunters running around out here.  Literally, most gates had 2-3 cars parked at them.  One gate had 4 rigs and I know the road doesnt go more than a mile.  All these people drive by, see a clearcut, and decide to park with the other three cars at the gate.   :bash:  I hunt this area only because it is in my back yard making it really easy to get some hunting in and still fit in other weekend tasks like soccer games, chores, etc.  I will be trying to find some solitude this evening and tomorrow.  I know there has been a few HW posts this year on this area... I wonder if that is why there is such a huge crowd this year.   :dunno:

You are probably right about the post... that is why I put mason county.  I know what you mean with all of life's responsibilities getting in the way.  I have had to work 400 hours of OT this year along with having our first kid this December  but managed to get in the woods this weekend.  Now I am after this big bear I got some pictures of..
