Skagit Bull Down!
«
on:
October 18, 2013, 08:54:48 PM »
I was able to seal the deal this morning on a 6x5. It was the third morning I've been out and the first I was able to actually get up there early. He was running cows and bugling like crazy. Not the biggest bull in the world, but I'm quite proud of this for my first elk. This hunt was made even more special cause I could feel my dad there with me who I just lost on the 23rd. RIP Dad!

I was shooting a 30-06 with hand-loaded Nosler 180 gr Accubond bullets. It straight obliterated the heart and this guy didn't make it 50 yds from where I shot him.

Nice bull, saw pics of the other rifle bull shot earlier this week. Always nice to see the Skagit Elk shot by locals.
. Hope I get a chance to kill one before I accidentally kill one with my truck. Hwy. 20 has become scary. 50 plus elk killed by cars this year. Good to see them killed by hunter instead of a bumper.

I want to thank everybody for all of the kind words; the response to my post has truly been amazing! I also have a quick update: I got the bull into the butcher on Friday and he came in at 444 pounds on the hook! They also had him cut up quick so I was able to pick it up tonight - it was elk pepperoni and tacos for dinner!
Thanks again - the folks on HW are certainly a great group!
