3 bucks down :)
« on: October 19, 2013, 06:20:44 PM »
This year went great for the general season. Didn't see very much deer but ended up getting two nice bucks and my meat in the freezer buck.

To start off we headed up to our spot my family always has gone to up in the pasayten wilderness. Great grandpa Abhold was the start of our amulet going up there. We started our 5 hour hike up Saturday morning and got to camp around 1:30pm. After setting up camp my dad took off to his area and my brother and I left to our spot. Joking with my brother I said " I'm going to be pissed if he gets his buck again in 30mins like last year" well about and hour later we here my dad shoot 3 times. We start to laugh and then wonder why he shot 3 times? Big buck fever? A huge black bear? A deer on steroids? We hunt till it starts to get dark then head back to our camp. Walking up to camp I see blood on my dads pants and a big ole grin on his face. He laughs and says he did it again! He ended up shooting his buck 3 times because he kept shooting high above the front shoulder and the deer kept dropping and getting back up. It was a monster bodied buck (his biggest body wilderness buck ever that we think topped 300lbs). The cool part is that my grandpa that passed away always used to eat kit kats up there so my dad eats one for himself and lays one out for my grandpa. Last two years he has done it grandpa has came through for him and a big deer has walked out.

Brothers deer: my brother decides to hunt with my dad Sunday and they briefly see two bucks and around 14 does. Monday comes around and my brother and dad head back to the same spot that my dad shot his. After sitting there till 9:30am my dad pulls out some kit kats and says come on dad one more time. Not an hour after that out steps my brothers buck at 70 yards. He stands up slowly shaking because he is freezing and also has buck fever going on. He rests his gun on a limb and the deer hears him. The buck was behind a tree and in a stare down with them. After a few minutes he finally walks out and my dad bleets at him stopping him broadside. Brother made a good shot an he rolled down the hill about 20 yards from them for a super easy recovery.

My buck was simple for me but rough for my dad. We have an public area that we go to that is super thick so you have to push the deer to see them. They are strictly nocturnal. Got to our first spot around 10am and I shot my buck at 11am 20 yards in front of me with my tikka 7mm.

This is the first season we have finally got all of our deer instead of just one or two of us. Dad got to experience getting a nice wa mulie back to back years with both of his sons so super happy for him.

If we were supposed to be vegetarian God would have made broccoli more fun to shoot!

Well done, although I don't think letting the little one crawl on one of those tic infested capes is a good idea.. ;)
