Now Deer Hoof Rot in Winston Creek?
« on: October 20, 2013, 08:40:33 AM »
Over the weekend, I saw a 1x2 deer taken from Winston Creek with what looked to me to be hoof rot. Same elongated hoof shell and spongy, degrading pad. :yike:
The young man promised me he would take it to the game dept for examination.
Sorry no pictures.

I bet the deer was living in a swampy area.

That one looks more like an infection than hoof rot. The rest of the hoof is healthy and not overgrown like the elk hooves are. The one I saw looked like a miniature elk hoof rot case, not like this one where the hoof shell is unaffected.
