Wow wow wow wow .... I wanted to cry, puke , and puke some more ...

Okay here we go got my buddy James his deer back at camp hanging we took off to get me one . Sense we set an atomic bomb off in my main area we hit another one of my spots and not a thing .... UNTIL 6:00 he stands up and starts feeding around 400 yards away .. I settle in for some long range shooting .. I'm shaking like a leaf ... I just saw horns and lots of them ! Not having my range finder I go old school and try my 500 bdc hits above his back and he takes off towards me side hilling ! So I reload he stops and looks up towards were he just was I squeeze he dumps rolls about 20 yards .... I'm like hell ya smoked em .. But no .... He gets up and sprints about 200 yards into some thick thick trees out of sight .. Remind you it's gotta be 6:20 ish by now it's frickikg dark ... My buddy says relax you smoked em he's gonna die I those trees let's go back to camp and come back in the am ... So that's what we do . We get back to the sight of the shooting at 7:00 ish and just take it all in we end up hiking all the way over to were I know I hit him good didn't find a single drop of blood .. Now I'm questioning of I even hit him . My buddy looks at me and says you think he wanted to to belly rolls for fun ?? I laugh and say okay okay we keep our heads down looking for that red stuff

we look until about 11:45 and FINALLY I spot one tiny little pin drop of blood but instantly it's a moral booster I know I hit him now

we track tracks not blood now we make it into the trees across a huge sage brush area with no blood ... We get to the trees and just search I found another Pin drop :/ but it keeps me going .about 15 mins later after tracking little drops it turns to a lot of blood ... Few steps lots more blood ... And more blood ... But then gone .... I start heading down with some what looks like struggling walking .. And then I see it a huge mound of dirt ?? And branches and brush on it ?? BUT WITH ANTLERS STICKING OUT OF THIS PILE OF DIRT !!! Come to find out something else found my deer last night before me ... A cat I'm assuming ate out the guts ribs and rear legs and then buried it ! Craziest scariest most exciting few hours I've ever had ... He ended up being a 7x6 counting eye guards . Just extra stuff all over my biggest deer to date !! So so awesome !! finally Roberts guide service

Crazy! Ive seen 2 other cases of critters beeting hunters to the kill. One on Big Mikes Elk in Montana and another one a friend sent me a picture of a deer their friend had taken and all that was left is the front end right at the shoulders and the head. The rest was bare bones

Ohh I didn't use a Guide was just being funny because I got my buddy a buck Saturday on his first day hunting after I was our for 7 days already

AWWWW gawdd he was that close !! That scares me haha it did look like there was a struggle maybe he got to him when he was alive ?? I did shoot my .44 at a tree few times trying to scare something away long enough for me to do my thing haha my buddy who was with me was paranoid lol lets get out if here !!!

Dang, I was thinking that when you said you left it over night. I would have tried finding it in the dark! Just hate the thought of not knowing. Wouldn't be able to sleep a wink! But nice work tracking it. Heck, may have come face to face with the cat in the dark, so maybe that was best... But still - i'd have to go look for it, dark or not.

I wanted to keep looking but also didn't want to push him around . Thaught it would be better to just let em die we're I saw him last :/ maybe if I woulda found him that night woulda saved the meat

Woulda coulda shoulda... I'm sure you probably did the right thing. Probably 99.9% of the time, it would have ended up fine. I'd be more worried about other 2 legged 'hunters' out there steeling it... So that would depend on the area and how many others were around.
