First Bear
« on: October 31, 2008, 11:09:55 PM »
So I got my first bear!! Was chasing some deer and there she was sitting on a stump back to me at 150 yards. I was so jacked!! Not a big one (looked way bigger sitting on its butt) but was kinda chocolate colored so that was super cool.

Congrats on your bear. I had a 20 yard archery shot at a bear but passed thinking he was to small. I have not taken a bear and wish I would of taken him now. I had not seen many bears in the wild and assumed they would be huge. How much did yours weigh ? The one I saw was over a hundred I would guess but not by much. I watched him for 45 minutes, very exciting. He saw my montana elk decoy and arched up like a cat and hopped around huffing at it. Good job and congrats again. Mike

I would say 120. They look real small after you gut them. They lose all that round. Gut pile was half the size of the bear. Looked way bigger when I shot at it. I've seen about 12 over the last 5 years and down around sw washington they all have been about the same size.

Good job buckshot.  The 2d picture, your sons?  Build'in memories, don't get better than that.  Take care of the meat & it tastes different, but as good as venison.  Got some friends & neighbors who aren't excited about hunt'in but give then some scrambled egg w/some slices of bear meat & they're believers!  If you can take a bear then you are a hunter, they're not easy to take.  Congratulations.  I'm expecting a good bear story next year.
