There have been monster bucks there forever,  someone just finally shot one.

Blacktailer, what's the real story on those huge muleys?  I am fairly new to the site, and know that there is an incredible amount of kidding that goes on here.  I would just like to know if those bucks were killed in WA.

What everyone needs to realize is that the burn isn't a magical area that produces 10's of 180 class bucks, there are a few, like all over eastern Washington! Last year someone finally got lucky enough to shoot one. Since the article was published last year, the amount of new hunters coming to that area was ridiculous. All of them were asking My family who've been hunting there for 42 years where all of the monster bucks were. which I replied, in Swakane. Needless to say, i saw no new people shooting monsters. Monster mule deer don't just live in the tripod burn, they are all over eastern Washington, you just have to hunt your ass off and find them. It takes hard work and lots of time in the mountains.
Or just dumb luck ! seems like every year some guy swings into ace hardware picks up a box of whatever shells and happens along a giant buck . never the case for me maybe I need to dumb it down a bit ? :chuckle:

It occasionally happens, but most the huge bucks I've seen have been from people who know the area and put in the time, I've seen 1 that was dumb luck.
some people "get rich quick" and kill a big buck. but most have to work for it!  :chuckle:

I spoke recently with the friend who was hunting with the guy who shot the "Tripod buck" last year and helped haul it out with their 2 boys. It was their first time hunting that area. They were experienced hunters, just their first time there. Hunting experience not dumb luck. Location, totally dumb luck.
I'll also add this to the pot. They were all wearing HECS. I'd never heard of it before I talked with him. He also showed me his personal pics of that deer that I hadn't seen elsewhere, so I know it was the real deal.

Thats great for them, the point I'm making is not experinced hunters who have put in their time, especially with kids. I'm talking about the lazy hunters who dont want to put in time and be patient to kill a buck. I'm sick of running into rude, inconsiderate hunters who have come from all over to kill the infamous "Tripod Burn" bucks, when those bucks are RARE to come accross. I have no problem with respectable hunters moving into new areas. but this year the Methow was rediculous, I had a person scope me and my little brother from 100 yds away and started running down a hill while we were making a stock on a buck, the buck obviously was spooked. Then trying to follow us when we are leaving camp in the morning to get into our spots, thats just plain stupid.

I kind of find this humorous, coming from a guy from Seattle.  How do you think I feel when I can spend all year scouting and driving the spots I
hunt and rarely see anybody or better yet, rarely even see a rig; then hunting season rolls around and you pass a hundred rigs before you even get to where you plan on hunting??  It is what it is, and yet, you don't hear me complaining. ;)
