Cow Calling During Modern Firearm for Spikes
« on: October 21, 2013, 03:09:53 PM »
Hey Guys,

I am a 25 year bowhunting veteran on the eastside. I know the rut is over. I am taking my kids on their first Elk hunt in the Nile/Bumping/Little Naches for Spike only. This modern general elk season is all new to me but I would like to give my kids a chance if possible so I have a question.

Do Elk (SPikes) respond at all to cow calls during modern season? Either out of curiosity or post rut urge? Its a way of life during bow season but I haven't a clue how they respond or not respond in Oct/Nov. :dunno:

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks

I wouldn't recommend it with the sheer number of other hunters.

Rut over for the most part as it would compare to a couple weeks ago. Or does the second estrus cycle sometimes fall in the modern firearm season?

Thanks

Brian

I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.
