Blacktail rut question

Sunday evening my friend and I watched a doe running off her fawns, figured she was getting ready to come into heat.  We were right, came back yesterday and my friend dumped a nice two point that had his nose buried chasing her around.  My question is, how long will it take for another buck to come into the area?  Is it worth going back to the same doe tonight?

I've never hunted using a doe like that but I've hunted areas when the rut is on and seen multiple bucks in close vicinity. So if there was one buck, I'd bet that there are more right around.

It could definitely be worth it if there are good numbers of deer in the area to begin with, hunt where you know there are deer and there is a very good chance there is another buck in the area.

Case in point, wife shot a thick necked pig of a two point Sunday morning, I'm thinking about a 4 1/2 year old buck.  I shot a younger but still decent two point last night in the same clearcut.  Didn't get him in the truck until about 7:30 and drove right around the corner when another decent two point struts out of the clearcut right in front of my truck with his neck bowed, head down nose up.  Two bucks taken out of the area in two days and I bet another one could be taken today and likely more in the following days.

The deer I have been seeing have not moved much in the last week, there are tons of deer in the area and I have had it all to myself (knock on wood).  I have seen all the does in the same spots, evening after evening.  I will be back in there this evening as I am sure there is a toad in there somewhere.  Thanks for the input.

when do you guys begin rattling antlers for BT? It seems most guys do this in the late season in Nov but has anyone had success in late Oct?

My brother rattled one in two years ago on October 29th.

Keep an eye on that doe, when she's really in estrus there's a good chance a much larger buck will show up.

I rattled in and killed my largest blacktail (141) on Oct 28th in 1996.  Have had bucks respond to antlers from Oct. 22nd to Jan. 6th.

I was going back regardless, but your input has my hopes up pretty high.  I hope passing on all the little bucks I have been seeing pays off!  Work today is going to drag on forever.

I rattled a small spike in yesterday.....and had the same thing happen with the does.....seen them chasing the yearlings 2 days ago and today 2  fork horns were doggin them

If you see a little buck on her, don't pop him unless its really your last chance.   Often times a bigger buck will be right there letting the youngsters do all the work, and then he will check her every so often.   I cant tell you how many big bucks I  have seen/spotted while monitoring a smaller buck tending a doe.

I rattled in my daughter's first buck on the 21st of October last year.  There was not another deer around.  We are going to try to do it agan this evening.

Funny you should say that, my buddy and I were both convinced the buck we initially saw was much bigger than the two he ended up shooting.  I went back out last night and heard a buck grunting, but never laid eyes on him.  That was the first time I have ever heard a blacktail grunt.

Just like a bull elk my man, once the bull gets kicked out another moves in... Same apply's to dear....  But if you guys killed one, it could have spooked the doe in heat out of there too.... food for thought... Good luck, the rut is going to be good from NOW till Halloween...
