Looking for a playmate for my other pup. If anyone knows someone local who breeds wirehairs let me know. Thanks all.

I've seen a few very nice young pups come from Doug at Cooke Canyon in Ellensburg. Great personalities, trainability and temperaments.

Jim Lallas at Acme Hunt club in Acme raises wirehairs from stock based upon a dog named "Helb" which was a super dog as I've been told by more than a few people who saw the dog perform,he also has Cascade Kennels blood influence as well as Iverness and some Romainian imported blood from the old country.Rough shooters dogs that perform for the gun with natural ability. He's had wirehairs as long as I have known him and then some,I've known him 20 years now,he got his first wirehairs in the late 70's if I'm not mistaken.I hunted with his grandson of helb and that was a by god birddog. He has a facebook page called Acme hunt club.

I bought my first pup from Jeff. Knows his stuff and is (or was) heavily involved in NAVHDA.

Interesting. I had not heard about the VHDF until now. Is it an offshoot of NAVHDA or did that group have issues?

How they test is different. Or that's my understanding at least.

VHDF is something they started because some breeders decided they wanted more from their testing system.  In a NAVHDA test two dogs can be a prize 1 with 4's across the board and you wouldn't be able to tell from the score which dog was better or better in what area's, weaker in other, etc.  So they score it on a 10 pt system to better differentiate between the dogs.  Its a lot like the German tests but with a lot less emphasis on fur tracking and more emphasis on the field work and search.  You can check it out for yourself www.vhdf.org

Kelly's dogs are real go getters, born to hunt.  Hope you're young.  They'd run the legs of someone my age....  Jeff's dogs a big solid workhorses, have a bit of DD in some if not all.

VHDF vs NAVHDA:  Testing is pretty close to the same but how the tests are scored is entirely different.  NAVHDA uses a 4 point system while VHDF uses a ten point system.  You get a much more accurate evaluation of a dog in the ten point system.
