Guess that score.
« on: October 22, 2013, 01:34:34 PM »
I know there are a lot of you that have a good eye for judging.  So what do ya think gross and net? I made sure to include a pic with my arms bent so you don't have to bother calling me out :chuckle: He doesn't seem to shrink much anyway.

If you're saying that buck is under 174 I think someone scored it wrong, or the picture is very deceiving.

171 5/8 and 169.  I usually get within an inch or so when compare to an official score but it would be nice to be off.  I did long arm one but as i mentioned, I made sure to include a normal pic too.  I know one thing for sure...I shed a tear that day :'(

Great buck, that is a believable score without being able to put a tape on it.  When they get above 160 and into the 170 range it is easy to be off as much as 10", if you guess each tine length off by 1/2" or 3/4"(easy to do with a photo) you are immediately off by 6" and the mass on that one was tough to tell from the photo.

Anyways, bottom line, great buck and definitely one to be very proud of.

:yeah:  My thoughts exactly.  I don't have an internet formula for adding up scores in a photograph, but my "glance estimate" (the same as I would do in the field) would have told me that's a 175"-ish deer (gross score-nets are for fish).  I was surprised to see it score lower than that.  Either way, that's a great buck.  I'd be making a trip to the taxidermist if it was my deer...

The buck lookes bigger due to its mass and deep forks.  The weakness (if you want to call it that and all big bucks have there strong points and weak points) is that the buck is on the compact side.  his overall spread isnt what you think it is at first glance.  I would imagine under 24 inches by the pictures.  this takes it from the 180 class and down to the 165 or so class.  Great buck!

That 17" credit was his weakest point and 3 3/8" H3 was the next.  Pictures are always tough for me to judge but you guys did a good job. Rounded measurements are: 23MB,3 ,15 , 11 and 10(G's) / 5, 4, 3 and 4(H's).

I feel pretty fortunate to have gotten him with a general tag. I don't think I would pass this buck with a quality tag.

Thank to all for the complements!
