So football season rolls around and Hunter cant decide if he wants to play or spend more time in the woods this year...well as luck would have it he decides to play and breaks his thumb! So prior to season he asks if he can use my 30.06 for deer season. Sure no problem I tell him...well after breaking his thumb we thought it might be kind of tricky since he is right handed and his right arm is in a cast.
After a little practice and talking his doctor into forming his cast so he can hold the gun in his hand he says hes ready to go hunting!
Opening weekend rolls around and not much luck. So we head out last weekend only to run into fog as thick as pea soup and no luck Saturday. Sunday Im thinking it would be nice to sleep in but he has a different plan and off we go.
About a half hour into our hunt the fog starts rolling in and he wants to sit above a clearcut where we had been seeing deer during bear season.
After a short hike to the top of the hill we turn around to watch the clearcut be totally engulfed in the fast approaching fog. As we stop for a moment a doe runs out in front of us and stops...after she watches us for several minutes she turns around and starts walking back towards us looking from the direction she just came. I whisper get ready theres another deer close by.
After several minutes I make a few steps up the hill and I can see a buck standing in the Christmas trees watching us.
I set up his shooting sticks and he settles in for the shot...as I whisper take your time BOOM goes the rifle and all I see thhrough my binoculars is a leg straight in the air!
I tell him you got it and the hugs and high fives begin.
I cant begin to tell you all how proud of him I am...broken thumb and all he scores again

Hope you all enjoy the story and the pics.
