I like it!  I carried a Remington 1187 around for years hunting pheasants until it finally occurred to me that it was pretty heavy.  I've always been fond of semi auto shotguns and wanted something lighter.  I like the Benelli inertia operated action..  Simple, reliable, and easy to maintain and clean.  It's definitely fast handling and I think it's ideal for pheasants, especially in the thick stuff where I like to hunt.  With my favorite load of 1 3/8 oz #4's it is the Hammer of Thor!

Ease of cleaning is a big thing that doesn't get noticed until you have a gun that is genuinely easy to do so with. One of things I love about my Benelli M2 is it takes five minutes to break down and five to reassemble.

Beware that the lighter weight can mess with your aim. I know it sounds weird but for some people it causes real problems and they wind up going back to a slightly heavier gun.

Get the 12Ga.

I have the 24" barrel.  I wanted to stay close to the overall length of my 1187 which has a 26" barrel.  The action on the Benelli is about an inch longer than the gas operated action of my 1187, so the Ultra Light with a 24" barrel is close, in overall length, to my 1187 with a 26" barrel...hope that makes sense.

I bought mine strictly for hunting pheasants, so it was 12 gauge all the way for me.  Adjusting to the light weight of the Benelli was not a problem for me.  I think I shoot it better than my trusty ol' 1187.  My 1187 weighs right at 8 lbs.  The Ultra Light is 6 lbs 1 oz.

Get the 12Ga.

I hunt chukar and quail more than pheasants.
My main chukar and quail gun is a Ruger Red Label 20ga 26" - which I have shot pheasants with.
My waterfowl/pheasant gun is a Stoeger M2000 12ga 28" - which is has been a great reliable gun,
My thought was, why have two 12ga's that are very similar ( I know the Benelli is way nicer)?
Plus, there is no way I would take a nice ultra light waterfowl hunting....

Beretta 391, 20 gauge, regular field or Teknys, 26" barrel! Softer shooting, light, but not too light and cheaper than the Benelli.  I have both and prefer the Beretta!
